The Flyting
Join us in a rollercoaster recreation of one of Scotland’s greatest art forms, The Flyting, a ribald, riotous, roistering face-off between two of Scotland’s poets. The Flyting of Dunbar and Kennedy of 1504 was a stylised slanging match between two of the mighty Makars at the court of Scotland’s rock star renaissance king, James 4th. Stuart Murphy and Garry Dobson, two of Scotland’s most quick-witted comedians and actors will recreate this, perhaps one of the greatest showcases of the Scots language. The Flyting is a veritable firestorm of wit, learning, oh and foul language.
Not content with resurrecting this 16th century war of words, Stu and Garry bring this battle of banter into the 21st century with a flyting of their very own – they are good chums, but they are willing to stretch the bounds of friendship and right royally do battle in verse!
The marvellous guid folk of The Real Mary King’s Close are hosting this event within the most incredible venue, deep within the close itself, beneath the city. Join us in this as we bring to life in this wonderful atmospheric room an evening of poetry, learning, comedy and rude words!
