Jock Tamson's Bairns
One of Scotland’s greatest exports has been her people. There is scarcely a corner of the globe that doesn’t boast a Caledonian connection created by the Scots diaspora. At the same time, people from many nations have made Scotland their home. Our photography exhibition, Jock Tamson’s Bairns, has been curated by festival Photography Director Clara Massie (former Picture Editor of Heat Magazine). She and her team use their cameras to illustrate and illuminate the personal histories of a selection of these New Scots.
This exhibition tells unique stories of a refugee fleeing Nazis, a rescue from a Russian orphanage and even a whirlwind romance in Aberdeen!
The contribution made by New Scots to our country, community and culture has been colossal. These lives build bridges between our nation, the world and history.
